Background
Agrobiodiversity has tremendous potential to simultaneously address the most important global challenges facing humankind in this region and worldwide, namely food security, climate change and sustainable agriculture. It is necessary to raise awareness especially among the policy and decision makers on the importance of agrobiodiversity. It is of utmost importance to identify solutions that would contribute to development of new knowledge and relevant technologies.
Regional Conference on Agrobiodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Utilization (RAC-1), the first of its kind in the region focusing on the importance of agrobiodiversity in achieving food security, mitigating climate change and alleviating poverty nationally, regionally and internationally. It is hoped that RAC-1 will provide opportunities for agrobiodiversity experts in the region to highlight and assess the role of agrobiodiversity and identify sustainable means of utilising the region’s vast agrobiodiversity to its fullest potential.
